A man who stabbed a newlywed woman during an attempted sexual assault in a Pittsburgh hotel elevator will spend the next eight to 16 years in prison.

According to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE, an Allegheny County judge imposed the sentence on Michael Furman, 29, of Weirton, W.Va.

Furman pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated assault, robbery and unlawful restraint related to the attack on Jan. 31, 2011.

The woman and her husband, whose names have not been released, sued the Airport Hyatt Regency hotel in November. In the lawsuit, the woman said she fought back when Furman attacked her in the elevator and ran to her room when the doors opened.

The woman was treated for a wound on her leg. She left on her honeymoon the next day.
